Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom returns you to the world of Sega’s famous blue hedgehog to once again enjoy adventurous races filled with danger. This time, however, he is not alone and is joined by four friends – and a gang of pixies.

A truly infinite endless runner

Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom is a classic endless runner. You control Sonic as he runs through unending scenarios collecting rings (the game's currency), stars (premium currency), and orbs of power.

During stages you find various dangers that you must overcome, with Sonic having to jump over or roll under all enemies and obstacles in his path. Now, you may be thinking “that’s just like the first Sonic Dash”, and you are right - but the sequel adds a lot of features to make this a much more fun game.

For starters, Sonic now has friends to help him: Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and his new pal Sticks. You can choose any of these to be your main or support character as you run through the game.

Another interesting new feature is the elves. These little guys grant you additional powers/abilities, such as increasing the rewards you get or saving you from certain death.

Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom’s modes and levels are all quite predictable, and you can play without an internet connection. If you are connected, though, you can also compete in events that offer more substantial rewards.

Collect and improve

In Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom it is important to collect everything you find. Power orbs you come across can be used to activate abilities, while other items purchase improvements, new characters, and more.

To increase your rewards, the game also sets mini-challenges. When you meet the requirements of these - X collect rings, jump X times, run X meters, etc. – you are given extra prizes.

The new playable characters are not just a cosmetic change. Each has different powers, and you are able to switch between your main and support character mid-race to suit the situation. That said, none of them dramatically change the game – but they do add some nice variation.

Sonic Boom: Sonic Dash 2 plays really well. Great touch controls are responsive, even when there is slowdown on older devices.

Graphically Dash Sonic 2: Sonic Boom retains the original’s aesthetic, even going as far as repeating some sections. Still, the additional characters and areas – along with some new areal sections – do look stunning.

A worthy sequel

If you liked Sonic Dash, you'll love this sequel. In essence it’s the same game but with enough new elements to make it fresh and exciting. Furthermore, although the game has payment options, if you're good enough you’ll never have to pay a dime.
